Project Description

Investment and innovation to share knowledge

At Biodiversity Node, our work generates a substantial amount of biodiversity data. Preparing this information for sharing and reuse requires investment in digitisation, progress in data standards and innovation in our processes.

We believe in the potential of data spaces to connect knowledge, facilitate its dissemination and enable new uses. Our participation in this initiative reflects our commitment to digitising and sharing biodiversity data through responsible information management.

SEGITTUR’s Tourism Data Space

SEGITTUR’s Tourism Data Space enables businesses, public authorities and other stakeholders to share and use information in a structured way, subject to access and usage conditions. It connects data providers and users to support decision-making and the development of new services. In this context, biodiversity information can provide useful insights for nature-based tourism and environmental planning.

SEGITTUR’s Data Space forms part of European efforts to develop infrastructure for sharing information, drawing on initiatives such as the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) and Gaia-X, which promote interoperability, trust and providers’ control over how their data is used.

Steppe Bird Species Richness in Castilla-La Mancha 5×5 km

We have added this dataset to SEGITTUR’s catalogue. It brings together information by 5 × 5 km UTM grid cell and year for the period 1983–2025.

According to its catalogue entry, the dataset can help identify important areas for these birds, support the design of birdwatching routes and other nature-based tourism initiatives, and inform the environmental planning and assessment of plans and projects.
