Biodiversity Node, S.L. took part in the technical conferences of the STEPPE FORWARD Chair offered by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Centre de Ciència i Tecnologia Forestal de Catalunya. The main actors in the sector, both consultants, administration staff and researchers, met to share the advances in knowledge of key species in photovoltaic projects.
From the role of the consultancy, Eladio L. García de la Morena presented the paper ‘The consultant’s experience: procedure and integration of information’, in which the following topics were addressed:
🔸Importance of biodiversity information throughout the whole process or life of the project.
🔸Internal coordination and cooperation between the engineering and environmental areas, and external, with the environmental body and other stakeholders, is essential.
🔸Data standardisation facilitates interoperability between actors and is crucial for the development of projects.
Access to public information: Access to environmental information is a right and a necessity for renewable projects.
🔸Challenges and solutions:
- There is now more environmental information than ever before.
- There is consensus on the need for access to information.
- The technologies and standards exist to share and exploit data in a collaborative sectoral model.
- There is a lack of technical and human resources (investment).
- Is it just a question of willingness to collaborate?
